JUNE
9, 2007 - SAN PEDRO, CA. - The 9th Annual Port of Los Angeles
Lobster Festival, Sept. 14, 15 and 16, is set to serve up
a heaping portion of sizzling entertainment this year. Hosting
the main stage all weekend will be Indie 103.1, the hottest
radio station in the LA area and the "Coolest Station
in America" according to Rolling Stone Magazine.
"This year marks the beginning of a new direction for the Lobster Festival," said
Jim Hall, President of International Lobster Festivals, Inc., producers of the
Port of Los Angeles Lobster Festival. "With Indie 103.1 as a partner we've
embarked on a three-year plan to increase our entertainment value by finding
and showcasing the hottest new music acts in the nation. From now on the Lobster
Festival is going to be about great music and good food."
Friday night Sept. 14 kicks off the weekend with a "Wear a helmet and bang
your head" evening of hard rock and roll featuring The Binges and the Valley
Dolls. "San Pedro is a town that works hard and plays hard, Friday night
is for the home team," said Hall. "It's been a long time since LA had
a an old school rock and roll band it could call its own, until The Binges -
Mayuko, Tsuzumi, Dylan and Travis - hit the stage." The Valley Dolls will
cap the closing show with an all girl-tribute to the pioneers of 80's heavy metal
filled with humor and dressed in era attire.
"Saturday Sept. 15 will be a record breaking day of entertainment at the
Port of Los Angeles," said Hall. "Following the LobsterDog parade,
Indie's own Native Wayne will host the main stage, kicking off the music with
reggae rockers Common Sense. Following Common Sense will be one of the best lineup
of indie bands ever seen on one bill - The Ringers, Eagle and Talon, Great Northern
and Scissors for Lefty. Headlining the evening will be Fandango's tribute to
ZZ Top. Meanwhile in the pirate camp there will be a treasure hunt, exotic dancers
and the usual swordplay and general mayhem - it's different, it's zany and most
of all it's a rousing good show. Better yet, it's all included in the price of
admission."
The festival's entertainment kicks off on Sunday Sept. 16 with County Gone Awry's
tribute to Johnny Cash, The Eagles, Creedence Clearwater and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
On hand for the afternoon will be Indie 103.1's street team their usual van load
of free goodies. Filling out the afternoon will be St. James Inc. (heard on the
hit TV show "Men in Trees") The Ringers, and Bodies of Water whose
music almost defies description but we think their rousing chorus, huge swells
and lofty lyrics make them the biggest discovery since Arcade Fire.
Closing Sunday will be San Pedro's own Ambrosia, playing their greatest hits
in their first hometown performance in many years.
"There is no better entertainment and dining bargain than the Port of Los
Angeles Lobster Festival," said Hall. "We deliver a dynamic family
entertainment package and a delicious fresh cooked lobster meal for less than
just the meal would cost in any restaurant. Any one of these bands would cost
you at least $20.00 or more to see in a club, but at the fest they are free with
the price of admission. Our motto is Come for the Feast, Stay for the Fun."
Admission is $8.00 for adults, kids under 12 get in free. Discount coupons good
for $2.00 off admission are widely available and even downloadable at lobsterfest.com.
Conveniently located at the end of the 110 Harbor Freeway, parking and shuttle
buses are free. 2006 festival hours are: 5 pm to 11 pm, Friday, September 14;
